laugh tracks..hmm

This was probably one of my favorite articles this year. Laugh tracks is one of those things that I am exposed to nearly everyday and never even noticed they were there. Now that they were brought to my attention I don't know what to think. Hollywood is great but fake, we all know that what we see on T.V. most of the time is fake so I'm not too surprised that laugh tracks are used. The author of this article is so against them but I don't quite understand why. People who are producing these T.V. shows are out to make money just like most people are and when people find things funny they tend to like them more; the more people find their T.V. show funny the better the ratings and more money. I don't think laugh tracks determines for us what we find funny but maybe pushes us to laugh-there is nothing wrong with laughter. The best part of the article though was when he spoke about going to Germany. The more I thought about it the more I realized people in America do laugh at unecessary things but why?

Research topic

I decided to do my research paper on large corporations and companies moving their factories to poorer countries. I want to look into if it is beneficial for these less fortunate countries, since these factories do give them jobs. Or is it horrible because they are overworked and underpaid? I want to look into what the workers have to go through and what they are getting paid. Since I am a safety science major I think this subject will tie into that as well since we learn about workers comp. Do the people in these countries get workers comp? Health insurance? Medical leave? In America we get all of these because it is the law, is it the law over there or are they being shorted?

first time for everything

Minnick, Wanda D., and Jn K. Wachter. "Integrating Environmental into SH&E." The Educator: 1-27.

This article focused on environmental aspects specific to today’s safety professional. The main focus of the article was safety professional’s duties in the environment will continue to be in two major areas: on-site hazardous waste management and environmental hazard communications. The article also spoke about hazardous materials and waste management. How to properly dispose of hazardous materials and what is considered a hazardous material. Another key point was energy and environmental design going "Green" and how it would benefit companies.

blog numero one

KRISTA

I never blogged before and I don't care to blog. I'm a Safety Science major because I love safety and I love science.

"Attached to Technology and Paying a Price"
This article actually made me feel good because I am constantly distracted and I thought I had ADD but the more I read the more I realized everyone has this problem and mainly because of technology. The author of the article was actually kind of sick checking an email 25 times a day is crazy to me all while texting, facebooking, etc. When I read anything about technology I think the same things- when will it end? Can we live without it? How much further are we going to take it? Technology helps my grades but also kills them, I can't not text, I can't not check my facebook when I know I should be doing something else. If I had a choice I'd go back in time where people used their imaginations and literally enjoyed the free things in life. Another big thing for me is I feel like my generation has a happy medium with it because as we became older technology really took off but for someone like my niece who is 7 and already knowing how to use a cell phone and having one is sick; I almost feel like she is missing out on her childhood of being a free spirit and just a kid. At the same time how remarkable is it that kids at such a young age already know how to access the internet? Then I think about how easy our lives are because of technology, how much it helps me as a student learn more and expose myself to more. Me and technology simply have a love hate relationship.
